With a population of around 900 residents, almost everyone who lives here is somehow intertwined with the surrounding agriculture and the industries that support it. Haxtun was founded in 1909 and has a rich history that dates back to the early settlers who first arrived in the area. Some families farm land that was homesteaded by thier relatives over 100 years ago!
Haxtun is located in Phillips County along with the neighboring towns of Paoli and Holyoke. Haxtun is surrounded by vast farmlands that produce wheat, corn, and other crops that are integral to the local economy. The town’s location also makes it an ideal place to live for those who love the great outdoors. Nearby reservoirs offer a beautiful place to fish, camp, and boat. A 9-hole golf course is only a few miles from town and brings large crowds for tournaments every summer. The countryside offers ample opportunities for those looking to hunt, most popular in the area is pheasant season. For those that prefer to observe nature, there are many reserves in close proximity that provide ample birding opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy including Bald Eagles, herrings, cranes, and more.
